Okanagan Fine Art  by Kelowna Artist Janice Sich

Picture
As a Canadian artist having recently moved from Kelowna, BC to Medicine Hat, AB., Janice Sich  produces fine art landscape paintings of the Okanagan valley in oil on canvas. Her contemporary, original art varies from Okanagan landscape paintings including vineyard and lake paintings, to floral paintings, figurtive paintings,  painted turned wood and portraiture. Some of her work is available on art cards. Throughout the Okanagan Vallley. Now that she is living in Southern Alberta, you can expect those landscapes to change to prairies, big skies, and ravines.

The Arts are essential to our humanity. They enrich our lives and inspire us, fostering creativity, beauty, and aesthetics. They help us express our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us closer to community. When times are tough, the arts are a salve for the soul.
Artist’s Bio
Janice Sich is an artist living in Medicine Hat, AB,  primarily painting oil landscapes and portraits. Also, she is exploring abstract art.
From an early age, Janice has excelled in articulating in a visual format.  Her first notable recognition as an artist came in 1965 when her ceramic sculpture, “Polar Bear” was exhibited in a children’s international art exhibition.  Janice won The Alberta Distillers’ Award for Landscape painting in 1974.
Upon graduating from the Alberta College of Art (and Design) with a diploma in Applied Arts, Janice worked over 30 years as a graphic artist. She also designed and produced stained glass pieces and furniture.
Janice resumed oil painting in 2009 developing and honing her skills. Beginning with Okanagan landscapes, she progressed to figurative painting (Family from the Back series), and to creating fun portraits, often using humour to define her work. Working in broad practices, she is motivated by nature and emotions.
She has exhibited at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Arts, Dow-Reid Gallery, The Art Ark, Ritchcraft Gallery, Artsco at Kelowna City Hall, the Kelowna, Penticton, Summerland, Peachland, Armstrong, Vernon, and Williams Lake Art Galleries, and with the Federation of Canadian Artists in Kelowna, Kamloops and Vancouver. Her works are in private collections in western Canada, the US, and UK. Janice has donated paintings to the Kelowna SPCA, public art galleries, and the Kelowna Women’s Shelter 2017 fundraising calendar.

"My favourites are "Rabbit Brush & Sage" (you've achieved amazing dimension... I can feel the distance between sage & mountain and beyond!), and "Winter Wine" (...which shows the snow shadows so believably)...keep painting throughout 2016."
