It is a bit disconcerting painting a wildfire. Almost obscene as if you're viewing something you shouldn't. Yet at the same time it is compelling. You can't turn your eyes away because it is overwhelming and somehow beautiful. Is this a scene of more to come? Is this becoming our "normal" as we now talk of a "fire season"?
This is in honour of those who have experienced this "up close and personal". The property owners who have lost their homes, livelihoods, pets; courageous and exhausted firefighters living and working this 24/7; those who have experienced the suffocating smoke for months; and the volunteers who have devoted their time to the evacuees.
Change is desperately needed but it will inevitably come too late.
