Huh. Who would have anticipated price reductions? But hey, fine art sales have dropped. I was recently entered in a Federation of Canadian Artist national show in Kamloops and of the 85 wonderful works of art, I believe only 2 sold.
I've looked at other gallery showings and imagined what I would be willing to pay for others' masterpieces. Not as much as the artists think they are worth. Time to reflect on what I am asking for MY work. I've adjusted my prices so that in some cases, let's say for this one, Boardwalk & Bridge in Spring (24 X 30) I was asking $1080, I am now asking $975. And no, it is NOT a sale. It's a reflection of the times and economy. Where I was asking $720 for a common size of 16 X 20, (Rabbit Bush & Sage, below) I am now giving you a savings of $170 (I sound like the guy at the Brick! and no, it still isn't a sale!), asking price $550. When one considers the years of training (Albert College of Art and Design for 4 years) and the great degree of experience, I think I am priced below average. My desire to recreate and express my relationship to my surroundings, particularly landscapes, is definitely not diminished. I am a professional artist, but I will remain a student of creativity forever.
