Bluffs, oil on canvas 24" X 36". When I put down the sketch for this painting, I liked the thinned clay foreground bluffs.
The weight of the background mountains and Naramata bluffs are the solid aspect of this painting, while the bluffs in the foreground slide away like bluffs do. The heavy linear quality of the mountains lead the eye to the sage and crevice, while the repeated triangular shapes lead the eye back up. I like the way the sky is high overcast and the mountains are not in the sun, and the sun shines on the forefront bluffs and skips back to the sunlit bluff in the background.
Think I will be taking this one to the Fintry Fair on Sunday, July 14th. Hope to see lots of people there.
